I am from the northern part of the U.S. state of Maine, near the Canadian border. The Maine landscape has long been renowned as a source of inspiration for artists, and for several years I have been thinking about how I could approach that tradition. The landscape of Aroostook County in northern Maine — far inland from the Atlantic coast — is not necessarily the place prioritized by artists over the past 150 years, but it is the place that inhabits my memory.

These resulting drawings are fragments of a narrative, a feeling of the landscape as if being viewed from the window of a moving car and the ugly transition from winter to spring. The scenes are familiar and banal, yet a sense of uncertainty and weight creep in around the edges — perhaps a reflection of my own state of transition to my new home in Spain, as well as the general state of the times in which we live.

Soy de la parte norte del estado de Maine, cerca de la frontera con Canadá. El paisaje de Maine ha sido reconocido durante mucho tiempo como una fuente de inspiración para los artistas, y durante varios años he estado pensando en cómo podría acercarme a esa tradición. El paisaje del condado de Aroostook en el norte de Maine, tierra adentro desde la costa atlántica, no es necesariamente el lugar priorizado por los artistas en los últimos 150 años, pero es el lugar que habita mi memoria.

Estos dibujos resultantes son fragmentos de una narrativa, una sensación del paisaje como si se viera desde la ventana de un coche en movimiento y la fea transición del invierno a la primavera. Las escenas son familiares y banales, pero una sensación de incertidumbre y peso se cuela por los bordes, tal vez un reflejo de mi propio estado de transición a mi nuevo hogar (España), así como del estado general de los tiempos en los que vivimos.
